Of Materials and Process
I am fascinated with materials that are alive in their origin, nurtured by nature’s cycles, not mined from it.
It all began when I was six years old, watching my father block-print flowers on bamboo mats. The vivid oil colours of the flowers danced brilliantly against the soft, neutral tones of bamboo. While the flowers caught every eye, my fascination lingered on the bamboo itself — its textures, shades, and quiet strength.
I didn’t fully understand my curiosity then, but I would spend hours playing with raw materials, wandering outdoors, collecting flowers, dry leaves, and twigs. My afternoons belonged to ants, bugs, bees, butterflies, birds, nests, bird eggs, cats, fish, and puppies — all of whom became my companions. I could play all day swinging or climbing trees and lying in the grass, and gazing at the branches above me.
Since then, I have always been drawn to exploring the nature of materials — the very essence that helps flowers bloom and life flourish. Over time, this became my belief: progress is rooted in nature.
Nature gives us raw materials to realise our potential. The energies these materials carry hold the very elements that allow us to grow, to create, and to bloom.
the grass that rose above all others
Bamboo
A rare blend of strength, flexibility, and beauty.
It grows with astonishing speed, gleams like gold in the light, and walking through a bamboo forest feels nothing short of magical. Smooth surfaces meet textured strips, sleek blades of grass rise beside bumpy nodes — each detail tells a story, each line reveals character.
I have often wondered how resilience truly looks, and bamboo is a fine example. Resilience is not about growing a thick skin or wielding a sharp tongue. It is not about being rigid, stubborn, or unyielding.
True resilience is like bamboo — standing tall without losing softness, holding strength without letting go of beauty, simply being without ever losing love or faith.
At DaisyLife, we choose a slower, purer path — working with bamboo at the right age, allowing it time, and treating it naturally with water, heat, and sunlight. For finishing, we use nourishing natural oils, not chemical powders that only mask poor treatment.
The result is bamboo in its truest form — with a natural texture, a gentle shine, and a subtle fresh earthy scent. These are the qualities you will notice and cherish every time you hold, use, and care for your DaisyLife bamboo products.
What strength with grace looks like
Willow Wicker
Willow wicker carries both tenacity and beauty — flourishing as it endures nature’s hardships of water and sun. Like a child shaped by life’s experiences, it grows stronger with time. To weave it is to understand this nature: it takes strong hands, yet a softness of touch to honour its smoothness, guiding it gently into forms that hold both strength and grace.
It grows faster and can be harvested multiple times a year, however allowing it time to season is what gives it character and beauty.
The strength and beauty of willow wicker comes from how long it is seasoned after harvesting, the climate it endures through water, cold, strong sunlight. Willow thrives in water and sun, developing tenacity through nature’s hardships — qualities that give it its colour, make it pliable, resilient, and long-lasting. This influences whether it can be shaped into baskets for everyday use, sturdy storage, or heirloom pieces that last for decades.
The result is a craft that breathes with life — cool in the summer, warm in the winter, carrying a natural sheen, a tactile texture, and a quiet strength shaped by time. And as it lives with you, it reflects the weather, the rhythm, and the energy of your home.
These are the qualities you will see, feel, and cherish every time you bring a DaisyLife wicker piece into your home.
The Making of Coconut Shell Bags
Each coconut shell bag begins with the shell itself — cut into button-sized pieces in varied shapes, then smoothed, buffed, and polished to reveal its natural shine before being dyed in beautiful colours.
The buttons are hand-sewn, one by one, onto a mesh made from recycled hard plastic bottles — giving waste a second life. What makes these bags truly special is in the details: the authenticity of real coconut shell buttons over plastic imitations, the quality of making the buttons, the steady hands of skilled artisans, and the precision of every stitch.
The result is a bag that is sustainable, authentic, and enduring — a piece that reflects patience, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design.
